Kathryn T. Wissman, Ph.D.

Dr. Kathryn Wissman (she/her) is an Associate Professor at Otterbein University near Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Wissman received her Ph.D. from Kent State University, worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Skidmore College, and was a faculty member at North Dakota State University.

Her research investigates how to bolster student success and inform pedagogical instruction by examining evidence-based learning practices inside and outside of the classroom. A majority of her projects are focused on creating, evaluating, and disseminating research aimed at guiding curricular reform and promoting learning experiences equipped to support today’s students and educators. She also explores research on collaborative memory, mind-wandering, creativity, and metacognition.

Dr. Wissman teaches classes in general psychology, research methods, cognition, and teaching college science. She actively supports the Scientist in Training Podcast by DBER graduate students at North Dakota State University. Her recent publication focus on how STEM instructors use evidence-based learning practices and the use of alternative grading practices in undergraduate STEM courses.
