Veronica X. Yan, Ph.D.

Dr. Veronica Yan (she/her) is an Associate Professor at The University of Texas at Austin in Austin, Texas. She specializes in research on spacing, interleaving, study skills, and neuromyths. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2014.

Dr. Yan's research bridges social, cognitive, and educational psychology fields to explore how we can empower people to become motivated and effectively self-regulated learners. Her research combines both the cognitive mechanisms that underlie long-lasting learning, and the metacognitive and motivational beliefs that support the use of effective strategies. She also examines how students can master learning in the most effective and efficient ways possible.

Dr. Yan teaches a cognition, learning, and motivation course to pre-service teachers, and graduate courses on learning, metacognition, and self-regulated learning. Dr. Yan was featured on the Exam Study Expert podcast and she provides professional development workshops that integrate both research and practical teaching experiences.
